International roaming plan billed Rs 12,000 against Rs 2,999 price with no deactivation option

Bought airtel International roaming plan for Rs 2999 + GST and got billed Rs 12,000. What’s good about Airtel international roaming? - One tap activation - 5G internet for most of the travel What’s bad? - Calling is covered for local + India. Which is pretty much useless and there’s no way you can exclude this from the package. - ‘Local’ for a Euro trip as per Airtel means just one country - if you make a call to a hotel or airlines in the neighboring country where you will go next, you are billed a bomb (like $1M USD per minute which Airtel’s hero plan subsidizes to Rs 50 per min) - If you buy the plan for x days, it auto-extends the plan for each extra day EVEN when you never asked for it and you emailed them in advance to deactivate the plan, because there is NO option on the app to deactivate the service - Airtel calls the ‘service’ of auto-extension “roam without fear” so you can only be frightened once you come back home, not during your travel - Call centers from India will continue calling you Lesson learnt. Read the fine print before falling for one-tap activation. And port to Jio. What can you do instead to not repeat the same mistake? - Buy the local SIM/eSIM in Europe because it usually gives you EU-wide internet, SMS & calling access and you know the ‘fixed’ cost upfront, which is also substantially lower than Airtel’s. - Even better, go for ORoaming (internet without a SIM card) on Android which comes at a fraction of the Airtel’s bill. And this is also just one-tap activation.
