HDFC Bank advertised SmartEMI at 0.99% per month but charged 2.13% on a 6-EMI conversion, then gave shifting explanations

HDFC Bank MAY CHOOSE NOT TO RESPOND, BUT CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT CHOOSE TO STAY SILENT! At this point, I honestly don't expect HDFC Bank to give me a satisfactory response. My repeated complaints and supporting screenshots have not resulted in a clear explanation of my actual concern. But I am sharing this publicly because this issue is bigger than one customer or one credit card. HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED: HDFC Bank repeatedly sent me promotional SMS messages advertising SmartEMI at interest rates starting from 0.99% per month. I proceeded with an EMI conversion, but the loan was processed at 2.13% interest per month for 6 EMIs. I raised a complaint and submitted screenshots. HDFC Bank initially responded that no offer was sent on 13 October. I showed them an actual promotional SMS dated 8 October. Their next response explained that 0.99% was a base rate and the final interest rate could vary depending on the amount. And now, even after all these complaints, I AM STILL RECEIVING THE SAME 0.99% SMARTEMI PROMOTIONAL MESSAGES! So, my question is: If HDFC Bank is continuously sending these promotional messages, why is it so difficult to acknowledge the communication and provide a proper explanation? I am not demanding a guaranteed 0.99% rate. I understand that eligibility and conditions may apply. But customers have every right to know the actual applicable interest rate, eligibility conditions and total financial cost BEFORE committing to an EMI. A promotional headline should not leave customers confused about what they will actually pay. THIS IS A CONSUMER AWARENESS ISSUE. Today, it is my experience. Tomorrow, another customer may face a similar situation. I intend to escalate this matter to the National Consumer Safety and the appropriate consumer grievance authorities. I request the following organisations to take note: HDFC Bank – Please investigate your promotional communication and customer complaint-handling process. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) – Please take note of the consumer transparency concern. Department of Consumer Affairs – Please look into the broader consumer awareness aspect. MY MESSAGE TO EVERY CREDIT CARD CUSTOMER: Before converting any outstanding amount into EMI: - Check the actual monthly interest rate. - Ask for the complete EMI repayment calculation. - Check processing fees and GST. - Read the terms and conditions. - Save screenshots of promotional offers. AND MY MESSAGE TO HDFC Bank : If the offer is genuine, acknowledge it. If the customer is not eligible, explain why. If the final rate is different, disclose it transparently. Customers are not fools. Their trust should not be taken for granted. I may be just one customer, but I refuse to stay silent when I believe something deserves public scrutiny. Let's make consumer awareness stronger. #HDFCBank #ConsumerAwareness #ConsumerRights #BankingTransparency #SmartEMI #RBI #GrahakSuraksha #CustomerExperience #FinancialLiteracy #India
