Unfair Refund Deduction on an Airline-Cancelled Flight – Seeking Accountability from Yatra and SpiceJet! I am extremely disappointed with the way my flight cancellation refund has been handled by Yatra Online Ltd. and SpiceJet Limited . My flight was cancelled by the airline, yet I have received only a partial refund, with a significant amount being deducted under the explanation of "Promotional Discount Deducted." Here are the booking details: ✈️ Airline: SpiceJet Flight: SG-141 (Bengaluru – New Delhi) Date of Travel: 22 October 2026 Yatra Reference: Available on request 💰 Refund details: - Total amount paid: ₹15,616 - Amount refunded: ₹9,554.01 - Remaining amount: ₹6,061.99 (subject to reconciliation) Despite the airline initiating the cancellation, I have not received a satisfactory explanation for this deduction. As per DGCA's passenger protection and refund provisions, passengers are entitled to a refund when an airline cancels a flight. An OTA's promotional discount adjustment should not be used to justify an unexplained withholding of the passenger's refund. I have already: - Raised the issue with Yatra Online Ltd. and SpiceJet Limited through email. - Shared the official flight cancellation notification. - Attached the original booking invoice for verification. What is even more disappointing is that I have not received any acknowledgement or confirmation of my complaint despite sending the email. I would like to ask: 1. Why is a passenger being penalised financially for a cancellation initiated by the airline? 2. On what basis is a promotional discount being deducted from the refund? 3. Why is there no acknowledgement or response to a customer's formal complaint? I request Yatra Online Ltd. and SpiceJet Limited to investigate this matter, provide a transparent breakup of the refund calculation, and release the remaining eligible refund to my original payment method. I hope this public escalation brings the attention this issue deserves and helps resolve it without further escalation to DGCA India through AirSewa and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) Customers deserve transparency, accountability, and fair treatment – especially when the cancellation is not their fault.
