A Saturday afternoon craving, a few slices of cake, and a complimentary Jeera Soda... 🍰 🥤n What could possibly go wrong? 😄n I ordered a few cake slices on Swiggy, and the restaurant was kind enough to offer the Jeera Soda for free. A sweet little Saturday indulgence! But then came the bill. 👀n My subtotal was ₹386, and as I glanced through the tax breakdown, one line item caught my attention. GST @ 40% — ₹17.11n Wait, WHAT? 🤔n I understand that different food items can attract different GST rates. But seeing a 40% GST line on a bill for cake slices and a Jeera Soda certainly made me pause. And remember, the Jeera Soda was complimentary from the restaurant! So, naturally, a few questions came to mind:nn* Why am I being charged GST at two different rates on what seems like a simple food order?n* Which item attracts the 40% GST?n* And shouldn't the tax breakup on a consumer bill be easier to understand? In a world where we talk endlessly about customer experience, seamless ordering and digital convenience, transparency in billing should be part of the experience too. I'm not questioning the need to pay taxes. I'm questioning the need to decode a bill to understand what I'm paying for. Dear Swiggy , could you help me understand this tax calculation?
