Customer says Myntra refunded ₹500 for a ₹824 item returned from a four-item bank-offer order

When a customer returns one item, should they lose the benefit of an entire order? I recently had an experience with Myntra that made me question how transparent e-commerce platforms really are about refunds. I ordered four items in a single transaction. A bank offer was applied collectively to the order. When I decided to return one item, priced at approximately ₹824, I expected the refund to reflect the amount attributable to that product. Instead, Myntra showed me a refund of just ₹500. A difference of more than ₹300 on a single return. The explanation appears to be connected to the bank offer applied to the overall order. But here's what concerns me. As a customer, I see the final price, place an order, and pay for my products. If a bank offer is applied collectively, shouldn't the platform clearly explain how that discount will be recalculated if I return just one item? If returning one product can change the effective price or refund eligibility of the others, that condition should be transparent before the purchase is completed — not become a surprise at the time of a return. This raises three important questions: - Transparency: Are the financial consequences of partial returns clearly disclosed when customers use bank offers? - Fairness: Is the deduction proportionate to the benefit attributable to the returned item, or is the customer losing a discount calculated across the entire order? - Customer trust: Can a platform continue to build trust if its checkout experience feels straightforward, but its refund experience feels unpredictable? Under India's Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, e-commerce entities have obligations concerning unfair trade practices and the handling of consumer grievances. Whether this particular deduction violates the law depends on the applicable offer terms, the refund calculation, and what was disclosed to the customer. I am not suggesting that every bank-offer adjustment is unfair. Offers can have minimum purchase thresholds and specific eligibility conditions. My concern is whether those conditions are communicated clearly and whether the refund calculation is fair, transparent, and verifiable. For e-commerce businesses, conversion is only one part of the customer journey. The experience after a purchase — especially when something goes wrong — matters just as much. A smooth checkout can win an order. A transparent refund policy can win a customer's trust. And in the long run, trust is worth much more than a single transaction. Myntra, could you clarify how the ₹500 refund was calculated for an item priced at approximately ₹824, when the bank offer was applied to a four-item order? I'd also like to hear from people working in e-commerce, consumer law, and payments: where should the line be drawn between legitimate offer conditions and an unfair customer experience? #CustomerExperience #Ecommerce #ConsumerRights #CRO #CustomerTrust #Marketplace
