₹35 Crore Allegedly Vanishes from Bank Accounts. What Can Account Holders Learn? 🏦⚠️ A disturbing case has emerged from a Punjab National Bank branch in Greater Noida, where customers have alleged that around ₹35 crore went missing from savings accounts and fixed deposits without their authorization. What happened? The affected customers reportedly include farmers who had deposited substantial amounts received as land-acquisition compensation, including compensation linked to the Jewar Airport project. Customers complained of sharp reductions in bank balances and, in some cases, fixed deposits allegedly being prematurely closed without consent. One customer alleged that an account holding around ₹87–88 lakh was left with only ₹1 lakh. Another said ₹39 lakh disappeared from his savings account without his authorisation. How did it remain unnoticed? Several customers claimed that they did not receive transaction alerts and discovered the discrepancies only when they visited the branch to withdraw money or check their accounts. Reports also include allegations that SMS alerts had been disabled before disputed transactions, though that remains an allegation under investigation. The matter has resulted in an FIR and suspension of several bank employees, including the branch manager, while police and the bank are investigating the complaints. The bigger lesson for every bank account holder We often think:“My money is in the bank, so I don't need to monitor it.” Cases like this remind us that monitoring our bank accounts is as important as monitoring our investments. ✅ Check savings/current account statements regularly ✅ Review FD balances and maturity details periodically ✅ Never ignore a missing SMS/email transaction alert ✅ Immediately report any transaction you don't recognise through the bank's official channels ✅ Obtain a formal complaint/reference number rather than relying only on verbal communication ✅ Block compromised digital banking facilities where necessary The takeaway: Banking safety shouldn't end with protecting our OTP and PIN. Regular reconciliation of our own bank balance, FDs and transaction alerts should become a personal financial habit. Your bank safeguards your money. But you should monitor it too. #Banking #BankFraud #PNB #FinancialAwareness #PersonalFinance #BankingSafety #FraudPrevention #FinancialLiteracy #RBI
