SBI Card closed a collection-harassment complaint citing its own Code of Conduct, with no review of call records or field visits

The Hollow Assurance of “Good Faith” and “Fair Treatment” Two expressions repeatedly appear in institutional responses: “good faith” and “fair treatment.” In responses concerning my complaints, ICICI Bank ICICI Bank Credit Cards ICICI Bank has relied on explanations that collection calls and field visits were intended as payment reminders and were carried out in good faith. SBI Card SBI Card has similarly referred to its Code of Conduct, fair treatment, courtesy, employee training and compliance standards, while stating that its investigation found no instance of misbehaviour by collection representatives. But these assurances raise a fundamental question: Good faith according to whom, and fair treatment experienced by whom? When a customer reports repeated calls, inappropriate communication, contact involving family members and neighbours, residential visits and the resulting impact on personal and professional life, how can an institution simply return to its own policy language and declare that everything was conducted appropriately? Where is the independent examination of the reported incidents? Where is the examination of the actual call records, agency instructions, field-visit records, supervisory oversight and escalation history? Where is the consideration of the customer's family members and the real consequences of the reported conduct? And how can an investigation be considered complete when the institution's response does not meaningfully address these specific concerns? A Code of Conduct is not proof that the conduct was compliant. Employee training is not proof that the trained standards were followed. A statement of good faith is not proof of a fair customer experience. Compliance cannot be established merely by quoting compliance requirements. If an institution's investigation begins and ends with its own assurance that its representatives acted appropriately, then who independently examines the possibility that the operational process itself has failed? This is where governance becomes an empty exercise: the language of fairness remains intact, the policy remains documented, the complaint receives a formal response, but the customer's reported reality remains unanswered. I call this out because these are not harmless administrative differences. The consequences can extend into a person's home, family relationships, professional life and dignity. No institution should be allowed to substitute its declared intention for an examination of its actual impact. Good faith must be demonstrated through conduct. Fair treatment must be established through experience. Compliance must be verified through evidence. Accountability must follow when the reality does not match the policy.
