UPI scam awareness post shares guidance on preserving scam messages and reporting fraud through official channels

Don't delete the scam message. It is exactly the evidence the police need. I found that out standing at shop counters in Balaji Nagar, Kurnool. I am a B.Tech student at GPREC. My first visit was Sunday 3 May, in a college lanyard, with nothing to sell. A website does not reach someone who never searched for it, so I went to the doors. Eight weeks. 48 days in my log. Fake payment screenshots, QR tricks, and who to call in the first hour. That was the whole talk, at counters and in living rooms. No stage, no slides. I am posting this late. The fieldwork was May and June, and I have kept working on the tool since. What stayed with me: people were unsure what to do and afraid of losing face or money, and some of them deleted the proof. So I built a small tool from what they told me. Paste a message, a link or a QR screenshot. It shows the exact words that gave the scam away and what to do in the first hour. It never says a message is safe, because "I found nothing" is not proof. Your messages stay on your phone. (Voice is the one exception, and only if you switch it on.) The second image is the first-hour list, from the same site. If someone at home pays by UPI, send it to them. If it has already happened, use the official channels: Call 1930, the national cybercrime helpline Report online: cybercrime.gov.in Report a fraud call or SMS (Chakshu): sancharsaathi.gov.in It is not finished work and I would rather say so. A bug read plain-text screenshots as QR codes: 520 of 3,800 in my own tests. I fixed it and kept the test. When I asked it to check a phone number it answered as if it could. It can't, and now it says so. And I have no field data yet, so I won't tell you it works at scale. Thank you to the families who opened their doors, and to G. Pulla Reddy Engineering College for backing it. Which one has come near you or your family: a fake KYC SMS, a fake officer call, a QR payment trick, a loan app? Tell me what it looked like. The site is free to use. Link
